In April 2010 following the government consultation on open data, Ordnance Survey released a subset of their Code-Point® product and other map products under a royalty free licence. At the same time the government established data.gov.uk to provide access to various datasets from central departments and a number of other public sector bodies under a generic Open Government Licence.
BPH were one of the first solution providers to create value added products based on reformatted and enhanced public data derived from a number of different raw sources.
Postcode Grid Lat/Lon (PGLL) is a table of all current unit postcodes in England, Scotland and Wales together with their OS grid references (to 1m resolution) and Lat/Lon co-ordinates. Administrative area and ward codes are also provided along with code-to-name translation tables.
As a CSV file PGLL is easily imported to MS Access, SQL or any other database.
GazMap is a comprehensive locations gazetteer and mapping tool including public transport nodes and postcode sectors. GazMap is output as a fully formatted multi-tabbed XLS with links to Google Maps, and as a set of 3 CSV tables for clients who want to integrate with their own applications.
Both of these products are updated quarterly.
