Many, many websites provide a facility to perform
radial searches around a specified postcode. This is ideal when
looking for cars, jobs, properties or many other
products... But what if you don't know the full postcode - the
visitor to your website may only know the postal sector, or
village or even town around which they want to search. For this
particular application
BPH has developed a "hybrid" file called
GridLoc which combines Locality data at Postal
Sector level with both OSGR Easting/Northing coordinates and
Latitude/Longitude values. The file combines both PAF® Locality
data (Loc Type = LOC) and localities from the Alias file (ALC) and calculates centroid
coordinates for each locality, post town (PTN) and postal sector.
Below is a very small representation of the dataset. If you
would like to trial the data please download the sample to the
right.
The GridLoc file is only available as a complete UK dataset and costs
£650 for a single edition. Because GridLoc merges two data sources
the Royal Mail licence is a combination of both Part PAF®
and Postzon elements.
